Time of interview: 2:00 PM on December 1, 2014

Place: Adalyn’s abode

Enter Adalyn, taking a seat across from Rynn in the living room.

Rynn: So, let’s start with your name.
Adalyn: Don’t you know that already? You asked to interview me.
Rynn: Sure, yes… But for the audience!
Adalyn: Oh, right! Okay. Well, I’m Adalyn Rose Dawn.
Rynn: And what can you tell me about growing up? Where are you from?
Adalyn: Uh, well… I grew up not far from here. I grew up in a forest town similar to this with my mom and dad and two older siblings. I suppose you could say we were in the upper middle class…
Rynn: That’s nice! What was growing up like for you?
Adalyn: Hmm, it’s funny because I really don’t remember it much…
Rynn: Well, do you have any really pivotal memories?
Adalyn: Hmm… (long pause) Oh, oh! Every summer my whole family would take this grand trip to our cabin on Lake Shasta—we called it the Lakes that Don’t Freeze, because even in the winter, the water never froze. Anyways, we would go there, and come evening-time on the summer solstice, my family would all board my dad’s tiny little boat—this white motorboat with our last name painted on the side, and would drive it out to the middle of the lake and watch the sun set.
Rynn: That’s a great memory!
Adalyn: Yeah, admittedly, that’s sort of all I remember… I guess I blocked a lot out after they passed…
Rynn: I’m sorry, we can move on. How about, what is one pivotal event in your life and how did it shape you?
Adalyn: (scoffing) Just one? Jeez, that’s limiting!
Rynn: Are there multiple that come to mind?
Adalyn: I could name a few.
Rynn: Be my guest!
Adalyn: Well, there was the loss of my parents and my hometown from a wildfire, the marriage to Dray, the loss of Dray and his daughter Delilah, being homeless, and then the creation of Dawn Hills, to name a few.
Rynn: Oh… Wow… Uh…
Adalyn: But I guess if I had to pick one… I’d pick losing touch with my siblings when I turned eighteen. It was about three years after my parents passed, and I know it is nothing in comparison to the other things I listed, but I think learning to take care of myself like that, really taught me a lot. It really shaped me.
Rynn: I—yeah, I could understand that. Is there something about that you’d want to elaborate on? We can also move on to the—
Adalyn: No, it's okay. What other questions do you have?
Rynn: Yeah, absolutely! The next question I had was, if you could turn back the clock, is there anything you’d change?
Adalyn: Umm… No. I wish a lot of my past went differently, but I ended up here… And I like here a lot. This is not somewhere I would want to miss.
Rynn: That’s really great—a positive outlook on things. I don't get many of those. Okay, how about, if you could travel through time, where would you go?
Adalyn: I would replay this period in time, right now, on repeat!
Rynn: That was a quick response.
Adalyn: (shrug) I really like it lately. I feel like that wasn’t quite the answer you were looking for?
Rynn: I mean…
Adalyn: No worries. If I had to pick another time, then I want to travel to the future. Perhaps I’d be inclined to see where I end up in a few years. I feel it could only seem to get better!
Rynn: That’s a cool one! And for your sake, I hope the future holds great riches. Speaking of riches… I see you have a lot of valuables here… What is your most treasured possession?
Adalyn: Aside from my dog, Rocky? I’d say Caiden!
Rynn: Cai—what’s that?
Adalyn: It’s, uh… It’s this little stuffed toy baby chick up on my shelf. I know it's nothing expensive, but I really don’t value expensive items…
Rynn: Really? I like that viewpoint. Can you elaborate?
Adalyn: Elaborate why I don't value expensive items? I don’t know… I prefer sentiment over cost. I want my things to mean something to me, not to others, I guess. It always keeps the people close to me.
Rynn: I enjoy that a lot! Well, how did you come to acquire Caiden, then?
Adalyn: Oh, that’s a fun story! I won it a month or so back at the annual Halloween Carnival!
Rynn: What’s that?
Adalyn: Well, for the month of October, Dawn Hills has an annual carnival that’s held in the center of town at night, and it becomes a pretty known attraction for the locals! I won Caiden while playing my best friend, Zack, at the balloon blaster.
Rynn: That sounds like a ton of fun, maybe next October, I’ll stop by.
Adalyn: Feel free to. I’d like that.
Rynn: So this Zack… Is he a love interest?
Adalyn: (blushing) Ummm…
Rynn: You don’t have to answer!
Adalyn: No, it's okay! I uh, I don’t…know. Sorta? I think we value our friendship more…
Rynn: That’s understandable. Okay, well what would you say is one of your biggest flaws?
Adalyn: Oh god, driving! No one should ever let me behind the wheel of a car! I uh—I just drove Zack’s car off a ravine… Not my best look…
Rynn: You—uh…
Adalyn: Yeah… Not my strong suit. I don’t even have a car anymore. I lent it to Zack after the incident.
Rynn: That’s—
Adalyn: I’m also bad at time management… Almost always late to things!
Rynn: I mean, that’s a bit better of a flaw to have!
Adalyn: Hah, yeah… I could agree to that.
Rynn: Okay, well, how about your favorite fairytale?
Adalyn: Without a doubt, Peter Pan! It’s such a childish answer, but I just fall in love with that story. I don’t even know why fully, it just intrigues me most; always has.
Rynn: I like Peter Pan too! Do you have a preference between the book or the movie?
Adalyn: Well, as a kid, I would’ve said the movie, but once I aged, I really came to like the original book story.
Rynn: I think some of the original book stories are better than the disney-fied versions! How about your greatest fear?
Adalyn: If I really took the time to self-reflect, I think I would never admit it to anyone, but abandonment. I know how to tend to myself, and I appreciate the time spent with just me—I love spending time with myself, but I think the thought of not having anyone there to turn to really does frighten me…
Rynn: That was a very deep and honest answer, I really appreciate you sharing that.
Adalyn: Mhm!
Rynn: Well okay, what is something that keeps you up at night? Doesn’t have to be bad, could be something good.
Adalyn: Hmm… Right now, Zack. Well, moreso chatting with Zack. I am a huge night owl as is, so honestly just about anything keeps me up at night, but I enjoy his platonic company when I can’t seem to fall asleep. We don’t do anything; we just talk. It’s… soothing.
Rynn: Based on how wide you're smiling, I can see that! So then, what does happiness look like to you?
Adalyn: Hmm… This sounds super cheesy, but right now. I mean, not this interview—though, this is fun! I just mean this period in time has really been tremendous. Being present in every moment with the people I love and care about right now has really made me the happiest I could be.
Rynn: That’s—I really like that answer! Is the glass half full or half empty for you?
Adalyn: Most definitely half-full! I hate to say this and potentially jinx it, but this is probably one of the happiest I’ve been in my entire life lately.
Rynn: I really love that for you!
Adalyn: Thank you!
Rynn: So I have one final question, and then I’m done with the interview!
Adalyn: Okay, hit me with it.
Rynn: Is there a common misconception about you that you’d like to set straight for the record?
Adalyn: Hmm… I like this question… I’d—OH! That I am actually a hard worker! Business gets extremely slow in the winter seasons, and it does pave the way for me to relax and travel, but I promise, I do work a lot! Especially in the summer, I do work!
Rynn: (laughing) Good to know, I will note it down and make sure everyone knows that.
Adalyn: I appreciate it. This has been really fun, I enjoy answering questions about myself. I don’t feel like people ask me enough.
Rynn: Well, it’s been really fun interviewing you! You’re someone I’d love to learn more about and interview again in the future if you’d be willing.
Adalyn: I’d really enjoy that.
Rynn: Thank you so much for your time. I know that this depth will really help bring context to the readers for the August 10th release date!
